Kate and I went to my sister and brother-in-laws today to help them out, cook them a good meal and play with my niece and nephew. We had a very good time playing with the kids and even got some photos taken. For dinner Kate and I made a citrus marinade on Marlin (and we made it on Catfish for Evan). As a side dish we made potatoes and onions. Dinner was very good, nothing gourmet or anything but just good home cooking.
Unfortunately we arrived home to find an ant infestation in the cats food, again. We have a problem with being in a very damp area with a very mildew filled basement that just seems to call for all sorts of insects. We have an exterminator on contract who comes and does seasonal spraying and comes back for “issues” and it seems we have to often make use of them for this. We keep a clean house, but with the basement and soil around the home being the perfect environment for ants and what not and our home being of not so wonderful 1970s construction there are quite a few cracks in the baseboards, grooves in the moldings and other areas that an ant easily turns into a highway in and out of our home. Not to mention the cats are both VERY sloppy eaters so even with me cleaning up by their food ball every two days or so, they get food all over the place. They’re both fond of picking a piece of food up and walking three steps to chew it (dropping crumbs of course) then going back to get more.
Calling the exterminator for an emergency visit tomorrow morning. Hopefully get them here by Tuesday afternoon. Kate and I are both a bit squeamish about bugs.
