Filed Under (Crohns) by Dave on September-15-2007

As I am finally at a healthy weight where I can afford to do some exercise I have been exploring the concept of no longer being so lazy.  I, prior to Crohn’s, was in decent shape for a short while and doing things like going to the gym.  Since the disease I have been unable to as I didn’t have enough body fat to lose, movement (especially fast movement) upset my stomach and I suffer from symptoms of arthritis.

Yesterday I decided that Kate has dumbbells (other than myself and the two cats) in the house and I was going to make use of them.  I did a couple of things I remembered from the gym, however I am sure I did them wrong and or did too much work on a specific muscle group.  I also tried to do push-ups.  This was depressing as I know prior to Crohn’s I could do around 50 – 75 without a problem and now 10 makes me sweat.

My goal is not to be big and beefy, but I do need to be a bit more in shape.  I don’t feel the need for people to look at me and say, “Wow, that guy is in good shape” but I want to make sure I am as healthy as possible physically within my control as the Crohn’s will always be out of my control.

join the gymrats community on lj. You’ll get tons of advice there, and a lot of support. They’re also a bunch of sarcastic fuckwits who make short work of idiots, so you’ll fit in just fine.

I might just have to do that. Right now I need to trim my LJ friends and communities down by a lot as I hardly read the stuff on it.

I also will not be joining a gym as I have no way to get to one.
